Shades of Grey 9 Art Show

The Shades of Grey 9 are show runs through Novevmber 26 at The Next Picture Show in Dixon.  This exhibition is a nuanced exploration of classic black and white art and everything in between.
The Best of Show award went to “Birds in my Garden” by Jane Lee of Rockford for painterly use of fabrics and tiny objects. First place went to “Minnie’s Last Stand” by Mike McNamara of Dixon for its rhythm and consistent strokes, shapes and values throughout.  Second place went to Carolyn McKee Freese of Serena for her work “Forest Greys.” The piece’s deep dark branches connect figures and keep the eye wandering and discovering the drama in the scene.  Third place went to “Path in the Woods” by Graydon Cafarella of Dixon. The piece is a watercolor rendering of woodland path.  “Kari in Leather” by Karen Stewart Casper of Milan received honorable mention for its direct brush strokes rendered with a spontaneous feel, reminiscent of Japanese brush and ink style.  Honorable mention also went to “Linked Memories” by Christine Myroth of DeKalb. The piece is a photograph of chains and canvas strap type swings featuring a range of motion and emotion.
