The Byron Civic Theatre kicks off its 19th season with the comedy "Hairspray" this weekend, August 2, 3 and 4. Set in Baltimore, it is 1962 and plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and "downtown" rhythym and blues.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for students and children, online or at the box office.
