The holidays have come to Sterling! Celebrate this weekend!

Festivities begin Wednesday, November 28 with the Toys for Tots / Salvation Army collection. There will be a drive-by drop-off from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sauk Valley Chamber of Commerce for new toys, non-perishable food items and/or monetary donations. No need to even exit your vehicle!

Thursday, November 29 will feature the Community Concert, hosted by the First Congregational Church located at 2nd Ave. & 4th St. Everyone is invited to this free community event and if you want to perform in the concert call First Congregational Church at 815-625-5112 or Roni Chavez at 815-626-6060 ext. 804.

The holiday fun will continue Friday, November 30 with the tree lighting at Grandon Civic Center in Central Park at 5:30 p.m. Sterling Mayor Skip Lee and the 2012 Grand Marshals, Ed Andersen & employees of CGH Medical Center, will light the city tree. Back this year will be the Sterling Rock Falls Family YMCA’s "Running of the Santa's". This "fun run" will feature runners in Santa suits. The runners will start at Grandon Civic Center kicking off this year’s Seasonal Sights and Sounds Parade. The parade travels through downtown and includes music, horses and wagons and floats from many area businesses and organizations. The Sights & Sounds parade will start and end at Central Park (Grandon Civic Center). Following the parade, several downtown businesses will be open late for a little holiday shopping. Santa will be at Sterling Federal Bank for kids to get him their wish lists and the Centennial Community Players Association will perform “It’s A Wonderful Life – A Live Radio Play” at the First Presbyterian Church in Sterling at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 1 features Breakfast with Santa sponsored by the Sterling Kiwanis Club from 8-11 a.m. Breakfast will be at the Sterling Moose Family Center (there is a fee to attend).

Saturday’s events will also feature the Sterling Rock Falls Historical Society’s Christmas Past Open House. During the Christmas Walk, lighted walkways and Christmas music will greet visitors. Guided tours are at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. & 3 p.m. with non-guided walk from 7-9 p.m.

To finish out the week, on Sunday, December 2 the Centennial Community Players will conclude their 2012 holiday performances of "It's A Wonderful Life - A Live Radio Play" at the First Presbyterian Church in Sterling at 2:00 p.m. and the Dillon Home Museum will have non-guided tours from 1-5 p.m.

There is sure to be something for everyone during this year’s Seasonal Sights and Sounds activities.
